Questions and Answers

  • Yes, with Buddy Pet Insurance you can visit any vet (other than yourself) that is registered to legally practise in Australia.

  • The amount your pet is covered for will vary depending on your policy and insurer. With Buddy Pet Insurance, these are the three products:

    • Gold Accidental Injury and Illness Cover – up to 90% of eligible vet bills with a benefit limit of $35,000 per policy period.
    • Silver Accidental Injury and Illness Cover – up to 80% of eligible vet bills with a benefit limit of $20,000 per policy period.
    • Bronze Accidental Injury and Illness Cover – up to 70% of eligible vet bills with a benefit limit of $11,000 per policy period.

Please note that some items on your vet bill may not be covered as exclusions may apply or they may not be coverable items. For instance, pre-existing conditions can be excluded in most cases. For more information specific to your policy, refer to your Product Disclosure Statement.

Also, if you have optional Booster Care benefit or Routine Care (non-insurance) benefit, the relevant Booster Care limit or Routine Care limit also applies to those covered items, which is additional to the benefit limit.

  • Yes, many pet insurance policies do cover vet visits, but the extent of cover can vary depending on the policy you choose. Here are some common types of cover:

    • Accidental injury and illness cover: This typically includes cover for eligible vet expenses for covered conditions arising from accidents and illnesses, such as consultations, diagnostics, and treatments.
    • Routine care (non-insurance benefit): Optional routine care benefit, which can include contributions towards regular vet check-ups, vaccinations, and flea, tick and worm treatments.
    • Booster care: An optional benefit that provides cover for specified dental conditions such as gingivitis and fractured teeth, as well as specialised therapies including behavioural conditions, physiotherapy and acupuncture.
    • Emergency visits: Eligible vet expenses arising from emergency vet visits for covered conditions are usually covered under accident and illness policies.
  • Annual check-ups are generally excluded; however, with Buddy Pet Insurance, you can add optional Routine Care (non-insurance) benefit to your policy. This provides a contribution towards things like health check-ups, vaccinations, flea, tick and worm control, micro chipping, nail clipping, and wellness blood screening, up to $100 per year. The Routine Care limit will be shown on your Certificate of Insurance.

It's important to review your specific policy details or contact your insurance provider to understand what is covered and any exclusions that may apply.

  • Pet insurance policies can cover consultation fees, but it often depends on the specific policy and provider and if the consultation is for a covered condition.

Buddy Pet Insurance will reimburse eligible vet expenses for treatment your pet receives for a covered accidental injury or illness (and other eligible items if you have the optional Booster Care benefit), while your policy is active. This includes associated consultation fees.

It's always a good idea to review the terms and conditions of your policy or contact your insurance provider to confirm the details.

  • Pet insurance policies in Australia usually cover emergency vet visits for covered conditions. However, the level of cover can vary depending on your insurer and the type of policy you have.

With Buddy Pet Insurance, for covered conditions which are injuries from accidents, illnesses, and other critical conditions, you’ll have cover for eligible vet expenses from emergency vet visits. The amount and level of cover will vary based on which plan you’re on:

    • Gold Accidental Injury and Illness Cover – up to 90% of eligible vet bills with a benefit limit of $35,000 per policy period.
    • Silver Accidental Injury and Illness Cover – up to 80% of eligible vet bills with a benefit limit of $20,000 per policy period.
    • Bronze Accidental Injury and Illness Cover – up to 70% of eligible vet bills with a benefit limit of $11,000 per policy period.

If you have optional Booster Care benefit or Routine Care (non-insurance) benefit, the relevant Booster Care limit of $2,000 or Routine Care limit of $100 also applies to those covered items, which is additional to the benefit limit.

Please review the terms and conditions of your policy to understand what is included and any exclusions that may apply.
